Fun Facts About New York’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
New York’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been an annual tradition since 1924. That’s right, this megaparade, which was originally intended to kick off the holiday shopping season, has been entertaining families for nearly a century! Actually, 98 years! It doesn’t get bigger than this. Every year, approximately 8,000 performers walk in the parade, and over 40 million people watch on TV! They blast out over 200 pounds of glittery confetti along the way.
The parade features dozens of balloons and floats ranging from giant Snoopys to superheros that are 80 feet tall and take over 90 people to handle. Then, there are the cheerleaders, dancers, clowns and foot-stomping marching bands that number in the thousands! Each parade is planned a year in advance to ensure an outstanding viewing experience for those who are watching in person as well as the folks who are watching at home while the turkey is roasting.
When Is This Year’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?
