ACM Awards postponed by pandemic

The Academy of Country Music announced that it has rescheduled the ACM Awards due to the novel coronavirus. Everybody living in Nashville is hunkered down, self-isolated to prevent a worsening of the potentially deadly pandemic that has already claimed the life of Joe Diffie, the beloved long term Grand Ole Opry member who penned many songs that made the charts for many artists, including himself.

The 55th annual ACM Awards will now go down on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m., which is a Wednesday night. The rescheduled Academy of Country Awards will be presented live on CBS and CBS All Access. The new venue will be announced at a later date, according to an ACM news release.

As mentioned in our previous blog, Keith Urban, defending ACM Entertainer of the Year, hosts the 2020 award show. In February, chart-topping “The Bones” singer Maren Morris and “Look What God Gave Her” songwriter Thomas Rhett scored five ACM Award nominations each — including Rhett’s first Entertainer of the Year nod. He’ll compete in the coveted category against first-time nominee Luke Combs, as well as established strongholds Carrie Underwood, Eric Church and Luke Bryan. Old Dominion also received five nominations, led by 2019 single “One Man Band.” With this top-charting single, the group competes for Single and Song of the Year.
